Over the past three weeks, Joe and I have been visiting the Urban Square Holiday Market at Union Square. Urban Square is a traveling market in New York City. I stumbled upon them in Herald Square last month and heard they were setting up a holiday market in Union Square through Christmas Eve.
Union Square is the perfect location for this event. The holiday market does not interfere with the Greenmarket [farmer’s market] whatsoever on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. I highly recommend checking out both if you go on one of those days!
I’ve mainly gone at night for dinner. They have a number of local vendors who serve up everything from crepes to tacos to waffles with cookie butter [yes, they are real]. I love all of the lights and they often have live music. After munching on some delicious food, wonder through the stalls. The local vendors sell ornaments, jewelry, and clothing amongst other goods.
My favorite thing about the holiday market is the lebkuchen from Leckerlee. Lebkuchen is traditional German gingerbread. Leckerlee makes their gingerbread by hand in New York City and it is incredible! I recommend the chocolate covered lebkuchen.
The Urban Square Holiday Market at Union Square runs through Christmas Eve, 12/24. It is open every day: weekdays 11 AM-8 PM, Saturdays 10 AM-8 PM, and Sundays 11 AM-7 PM [the weekends are much more crowded]. Check out their website for more information!
