Happy New Year!
I was debating whether or not to even write this post because I was worried it would come across as being negative but that is not my intention. I always have goals I’m working towards, however, I did not set specific resolutions for 2017. Here’s why:
Setting massive resolutions is unrealistic and ultimately, will lead to “failure”.
I believe in setting small, attainable goals. I also believe that our goals are constantly changing based on our needs. I personally entered a new stage of my life recently: post grad life. I wrapped up my master’s degree last month and am entering a new chapter in my life. This happens to coincide with the end of the year but doesn’t mean my life changes and goals are new year’s resolutions; they are simply new goals that will be accomplished through small changes.
In this new chapter of my life, I really want to focus on improving myself. I’m not leading the life I want to be living therefore I want to make major changes in my life. I have specific things I plan to do to make certain changes; I may or may not share more about this in the future.
I am a planner and goal setter. I think having goals is incredible and necessary. I also believe that limiting ourselves to “eating healthy” and “working out more” at the beginning of a new year is pointless. Leading a healthy lifestyle is extremely important and it’s something that I’m working on but an arbitrary date won’t really impact our actions long term.
For instance, I got sick at the beginning of the year. If my goal was to work out five days/week, I would have felt like I have already failed, which is most certainly not true. Increasing the frequency of your work outs is a wonderful goal, just don’t label it as a new year’s resolution.
This post is not to say that I’m not excited and looking forward to this new year. I’m getting married this year in addition to traveling a lot and ideally finding my dream job. I am SO excited for 2017!

Happy New Year, friends!
