Last weekend, I was lucky enough to see Cirque Du Soleil Paramour on Broadway! Joe’s cousin sent us some tickets she wasn’t able to use [thanks Lauren!] and we went to the show along with my friend, Marta.
I’ve been to one Cirque Du Soleil show in the past–my mom and I saw a performance in San Francisco over the holidays. Although this show involved acrobatics and tricks as well, it was vastly different. The show I saw in California was in a circus tent and had a South American rain forest theme.
This Broadway version is housed in one of the beautiful theaters on 42nd Street. The Paramour show had an old Hollywood vibe. It followed the story of a Hollywood director, looking for his next big star. The show deals with an artist having to choose between love and art.
This show was much different than I had anticipated. While there were still elements of typical Cirque Du Soleil performances, there was a lot more dialogue in this show. Paramour is clearly meant for a Broadway stage.
I was incredibly impressed by some of acts, especially since they didn’t use nets or much support. The Atherton twins are a part of this show as well; these twins are amazing gymnasts who have performed in other Cirque Du Soleil performances and at the Oscar’s in 2012.
Overall we all really enjoyed the show. Paramour is running through April 16, 2017. Hurry up and purchase tickets if you want to see it!
