It wasn’t until recently that my husband, Joe, became interested in skin care. He slowly started trying products and found a few that he loved. Now it comes up in conversations with friends. They are always jealous that Joe is willing and interested in high quality products. I get asked regularly how I got him to take care of his skin. Honestly it was all him – he found some products to try and found things he loved (my Sephora and Ulta obsessions probably didn’t hurt his curiosity). We should walk through his journey to see what might be helpful for the guy in your life.
SHAVE
Joe’s first introduction to skin care was the Dollar Shave Club (he even did a review years ago). This service appealed to him because all his basics are sent to him and it’s affordable. If you’re interested in trying Dollar Shave Club out, you can get your starter kit for $5 here.
BODY WASH
From there, he became interested in LUSH. Joe wanted a good body wash and picked up several smaller bottles to try out. He has several favorites (particularly the Happy Hippy) and has tried out some other products since, specifically their hand mask and lip scrub. Whenever we’re at the mall, he wonders through LUSH and checks out new products. They are also always willing to give samples!
DEEP DIVE
After exploring various products and loving them, Joe went for it and began branching out. He tried out this shaving kit, lip balm, body wash, hand cream, and this toner. Now he has created a skin care routine he likes. He has SPF to protect his skin during the day. His products make his skin smooth. It’s been working really well for him. I personally love having a skin care routine so I’m glad he has one now too!
If you want a guy in your life to get into skin care, ask him about his skin concerns. Does he have some painful blemishes? Does his skin feel really dry? Is he worried about sun protection? It helps to ease in with one product (or kit) at a time, especially something that isn’t too much of an investment. Walk around Ulta or Sephora with him. Ask employees for samples and try products before purchasing them. Once he starts seeing/feeling improvements in his skin, he will want to continue using them!
