I love a good DIY beauty treatment. There are tons of masks you can make at home with items you likely have around your kitchen. While we’re all at home, it’s fun to experiment and see what we can create on our own. This DIY face mask and this lip scrub are simple and budget-friendly. If you’re interested in product recommendations, I have a post all about my nighttime skincare routine.
The ingredients in these recipes have a number of benefits for the skin. Honey has antimicrobial properties, which means it removes dirt and is beneficial for treating acne. Oatmeal also helps treat acne because it soaks up excess oils. Oats contain vitamin E as well, which aids in hydrating the skin. Ground oats add some gentle exfoliation, which makes this honey oatmeal mask perfect!
For our lip scrub, we’re using brown sugar and olive oil. Brown sugar (well sugar in general) is a humectant, which means it draws in moisturize. Sugar is also a physical exfoliant and is the ideal ingredient for any type of scrub. Olive oil is hydrating and really helps out chapped lips. Coconut oil also works well in this recipe.
DIY Honey Oatmeal Face Mask
This simple three ingredient face mask will help fight acne and makes your skin glow. You can adjust the thickness of the mask to your liking. I like my face masks on the thicker side so I don’t feel like the mask is sliding off my face.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Hot water
Directions:
- In a food processor or small blender, blend oats into a fine powder
- Transfer ground oats to a bowl and mix in the honey until incorporated.
- Add a splash of water to slightly thin the consistency (the thickness is up to your preference)
- Cleanse skin and apply face mask for 10 minutes
- Rinse off and follow up with moisturizer
- Use 1-2 times per week!
DIY BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB
I’ve been making this scrub for years. While I’m recommending this as a lip scrub, you can really use it all over your body. This recipe is essentially the DIY version of this popular brown sugar scrub. The best part about this recipe is you can easily tailor this recipe to make more or less depending on your needs (full body scrub vs. lip scrub). You can also substitute sugars and oils – I suggest brown sugar and olive oil but you can definitely make this with white sugar and any oil (melted coconut oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, etc.). This scrub also makes a great gift – just transfer it to a mason jar, stick a label on it, add a ribbon and you’re set!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon olive oil
Directions:
- Combine brown sugar and olive oil
- Apply scrub to lips and allow to sit for 60 seconds
- Wipe scrub off lips with a damp washcloth
- Follow up with a hydrating lip balm or mask
I hope you enjoy this DIY face mask and lip scrub! If you try them out, please let me know. I’d love to see a selfie over on Instagram š
