The Best Things I’ve Done For My Mental Health During Quarantine

Mental Health During Quarantine

My mental health during quarantine hasn’t been the best and I’m sure I’m not alone in this. These past few months made me evaluate how I take care of myself during difficult times. Honestly I don’t have a good strategy so I’ve been mindful of what helps my mental state most. Hopefully these ideas help you as well if you’re struggling!

Naps

As someone who has struggled with insomnia for a long time, quarantine didn’t help my sleep whatsoever. I’d wake up a lot of mornings feeling like it was going to be a bad day because I barely slept. Sleep is so crucial for our mental and physical health. I started napping, without guilt, as needed. Naps can disrupt your sleep at night so make sure you nap for under 45 minutes and end any naps by 4PM.

Organizing

While this is sometimes kind of stressful, especially when those bigger projects, I ultimately feel so much calmer with an organized space. I’ve noticed that finding a home for all my things makes cleaning up so much easier. It also feels like I’m really aware of what I have and use my belongings more. Need some inspiration? I just decluttered and organized my pantry last week.

Podcasts

The only thing I miss about commuting is listening to podcasts. I don’t tend to listen to my favorite podcasts when I’m at home. Throughout quarantine I’ve gone out to pick up coffee or lunch at least once a week and listened to my favorite podcasts. I love the Bad On Paper podcast and Office Ladies. Joe also just got me into Oh No Ross and Carrie – they explore fringe science and spiritual leaders. It’s really well done and interesting.

Games

I’ve always enjoyed games but Joe and I never really played them when we were alone. It always seemed like they’d be more fun in a group. We’ve found some games that work really well with two people. Our favorites are Sushi Go, Settlers of Catan, Risk, and Everdell.

Baking

Baking has been so therapeutic for me. I’ve been experimenting with sourdough bread, croissants, brioche, and tons of cookies. I discovered Half Baked Harvest and have made several of her recipes. I’ve pinned a bunch of them if you want to see my favorites. I also share a lot of my baking on Instagram.

Art

I’m not the craftiest person but I’ve tried out some art projects recently. I found this paint by numbers activity and had a lot of fun with it. Also, I picked up this watercolor set and can’t wait to use it!

Plants

Plants have always overwhelmed me. I could never keep them alive so I mostly bought faux plants. Joe and I are having fun learning about plants and taking care of them. My parents got me this snake plant and cute planter for my birthday – it makes me so happy.

Skincare

Ok if you follow me anywhere, you probably know how much I love skincare. I have a post all about my nighttime skin care routine. I also have this IGTV video all about creating a simple skincare routine.

I’m wishing you and your loved ones the best right now! I hope these ideas can help your mental health during quarantine. Need to talk? DM on Instagram anytime 🙂
