It's been a minute since I've shared New York City recommendations on the blog. However, I couldn't resist after spending a magical week in the city last month. I visited for work but happened to be there during peak bloom. It was a last minute trip that was absolutely serendipitous. New York City is stunning in the spring. There are so many things to do in New York (during any season!) so I hope you enjoy my suggestions.
10 Things to Do in Spring in New York City
1. Picnic In Central Park
Spring is one of the best times to visit Central Park. The cherry blossoms and tulips are blooming. The birds are chirping. The sun is shining. Bring sandwiches and find a charming spot to soak in the views. My favorite areas are turtle pond, the Alice in Wonderland statue, and the mall.
2. Wonder Through Union Square Greenmarket
Browse the offerings at Union Square Greenmarket. This is my favorite farmer's market in the city. Pick up some fresh flowers or dried lavender. Grab a takeout lunch or pack a book and grab a bench near the dog park. It makes for a peaceful afternoon.
3. Venture Over The Brooklyn Bridge
Some of my favorite views are from atop the Brooklyn Bridge. You can walk, bike, or run over the bridge from Manhattan to DUMBO. Personally I like to start in DUMBO so I can take in the views and enjoy a delicious meal (Grimaldi's!). You can easily take the NYC Ferry over from Wall St. Then walk over the bridge back to Manhattan. The entrances for the pedestrian walkway are approximately 1.6 miles apart. Just be aware that the bridge get crowded when the weather is nice š
4. Shop On Bleecker Street
Bleecker Street features some of the cutest stores. From LoveShackFancy to Stony Clover Lane to Magnolia Bakery, you'll find all the cute photo opts and delightful shopping experiences. Pick up some world famous banana pudding from Magnolia. You won't be disappointed.
5. Lunch At Smorgasburg In Prospect Park
Smorgasburg is a fabulous open-air food market in New York City. You'll find a huge selection of small stalls with a wide variety of cuisines. There are a couple locations but when I was in town, the event was hosted at Prospect Park on Sunday.
6. Take an Upper East Side Walk
The Upper East Side is one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York City. If you don't know, I lived in Yorkville for two years and absolutely adored it. Some of the most stunning apartments are located on the UES. The 70's and 80's has some of the best, in my opinion. Park Avenue also has gorgeous blooms in the spring. I recommend starting a Carl Schurz Park and make your way to the Met/Central Park.
7. Stroll Through Carl Schurz Park
Another glorious spot on the Upper East Side. Carl Schurz Park sits along the East River between 84th & 90th St. This quaint park features a dog park, basketball courts, and tons of blooms. Some of my favorite cherry blossoms can be found at Carl Schurz, specifically by the 86th St entrance.
8. Visit The Brooklyn Botanical Garden
This wouldn't be a spring NYC guide without mentioning the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. I promise it's worth the trek to feast your eyes on rows of cherry blossom trees and throngs of tulips. Admission is $18 for adults. Make sure to arrive early, as it gets crowded this time of year. If you go on a Sunday, you can pair this with a trip to Smorgasburg in Prospect Park.
9. Walk The High Line
The High Line is an elevated garden, converted from a former railroad, on the west side. This park starts at 34th St (near the Javits Center) and runs down to Meatpacking (just below 14th St). Spring and summer are prime times to visit the High Line. Sprawling views and gorgeous flowers make it a charming walk in the city.
10. Sip Rooftop Cocktails At Eataly
SERRA by Birreria (Eataly's rooftop restaurant) features seasonal menus and decor. I've dined in the winter in an Italian alps setting. The spring refresh features rustic dishes and floral touches. It basically looks like you're inside a greenhouse. Whether you want an Instagrammable moment or delicious cocktail, this is your go-to spot.
