When scrolling through my archives, I'm shocked that I haven't already written a proper Napa travel guide. I've shared my favorite Napa wineries and all about the Napa mustard fields. Both are posts I recommend checking out in addition to this one! If you don't know, I live in San Jose, CA, which is a couple hours from Napa. Joe and I tend to visit once or twice each year. I'll keep this Napa travel guide updated after future visits 🙂
Napa Travel Guide
Where To Stay
Note: we've always driven in for the day. These are all places that have been recommended and I'd love to stay at!
Meritage Resort & Spa: I've heard great things about the Meritage. You also can't beat the location, if you're flying into the Napa airport. It's only 7 minutes away! I've also been considering do a daycation at the Meritage this summer. They are part of ResortPass. This service grants you day passes to incredible resorts. You can get a ResortPass day pass for $35 and take advantage of the pool, hot tub and more. You can even get 10% off your ResortPass booking with the code: Magic_Links10.
Solage (Calistoga): If you're looking for something quieter and wellness centric, Solage is an excellent choice. It's located north, in Calistoga. This upscale resort features a farm-to-table restaurant, yoga classes, mud bathes and a hot springs mineral pool. The property is stunning and would make for the perfect homebase.
Carneros Resort and Spa: If you're looking for a picturesque spot to put your feet up, Carneros Resort is perfect for you. I like that this property features private cottages to allow for a luxurious, private experience. Their spa also looks fabulous. They are also part of ResortPass.
What To Do
Wine Taste: I mean this is obvious but had to be stated: taste wine! Check out my favorite Napa wineries. I have a post with my favorite Napa wineries. If I had to choose one, I'd pick Castello di Amorosa - it's a 13th century style castle. You can even do a tasting in the dungeon! I did a tasting there as part of my bridal shower several years ago.
Shop: There are tons of boutiques and local shops to check out in the Napa Valley. Check out the cute shops along Main St in Calistoga. We always stop by Olivier Napa Valley and replenish our olive oil stock. You have to try their pizza oil!
Wonder Around Oxbow Public Market: Located downtown, this is a great spot to stroll through or grab lunch. You'll find a variety of local vendors, wine and food. They feature some well-known favorites such as Hog Island Oysters, Model Bakery, and Gott's Roadside.
Where To Eat
Oakville Grocery: Founded in 1881, this Napa institution serves sandwiches, salads, and wood-fire pizzas. You can choose from a wide range of baked goods and coffee drinks as well. Their chocolate chip cookies are incredible. They offer ample outdoor seating. Just plan for a bit of a wait if you come during prime lunch hours.
Bouchon Bakery: Chef Thomas Keller opened this infamous bakery 20 years ago. They are known for their giant macarons among their other delicious treats. This Yountville treasure is always worth a stop (even though they often have a long line).
Gott's Roadside: You'll find two Gott's locations in Napa and St. Helena. This is a great, more casual option in the area. They offer a variety of burgers, sandwiches, milkshakes, wine and more. This can be a good option for families too, as they have a kids menu.
Los Agaves: Excellent Mexican restaurant with fresh guac and margs.
