On my most recent trip to New York City, Joe and I stayed at the Park Hyatt New York. I chose this hotel because I've heard wonderful things about it and the location couldn't be better. Can you get better than a block from Central Park? This was a special trip for us because we celebrated a milestone birthday for Joe on September 17th. September is one of my favorite times to visit New York City. The weather is generally pleasant, without humidity, and it's that perfect transition time between summer and fall. We knew we wanted to hit up an apple orchard this visit too - it was one of our favorite autumn activities when we lived in the city. You can check out our whole trip (including a room tour) in my latest video.
When visiting a new hotel, I like to share my thoughts. This hotel definitely warrants a standalone review. There's plenty to dive into about this property. I hope this post is useful for you!

GUEST ROOM
We selected a king bed and were upgraded to a room with a city view. We paid for our stay with Hyatt points and didn't pay a penny out of pocket for our room. Our room at this five star hotel was 210,000 points for five nights. I transferred points from our Chase account. Chase does a 1:1 transfer to Hyatt. The room was spacious. We had a entryway, which also housed our safe, slippers and other amenities. The bed was perfect - I never say this! It was firm and I slept really well every night we were there. I don't think I've ever said that about a hotel bed before. The blinds and sheers were electric. There were controls on the wall and by the bed. This was an excellent feature and I was grateful for how dark the room got, especially since I'm sensitive to light. The daily cleaning service was excellent - our room was spotless and they even organized our belongings. They also offered turndown service in the early evening.
The bathroom was the highlight of this room. This is one of the best hotel showers I've ever experienced! The rainfall head had the perfect water pressure. All of the toiletries were Le Labo, including Santal 33 bath salts. Another perk? There was a tv on the bathroom mirror! It was such a cool feature that I've never seen at any other hotel. It was fun to watch shows while getting ready for bed or taking a bath. Speaking of the bath, I'm sad to report that this was only disappointment with our room. Unfortunately, the bath was really difficult to get in and out of. Something about the material made it really slippery? It was hard to get comfortable and to get out. Such a bummer!
AMENITIES
The Park Hyatt New York features a fitness center, spa and indoor pool. While we walked by the fitness center next to the pool, we didn't use any of the equipment. The gym is on the larger side and everything looked well maintained. We used the pool twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. The pool is heated and indoor so you don't need to worry about unexpected New York weather. The pool has a floor to ceiling windows so you can soak in the city views. There are water bottles, plenty of towels and a lifeguard on duty. They also have a hot tub and lounge chairs. Between swimming, relaxing in the hot tub and reading poolside, we enjoyed our experience.
This hotel takes care of the little things that make a stay more enjoyable. The rooms were equipped with Chromecasts and I was able to connect directly through the Hyatt app. We experienced a big rainstorm on our final day and the lobby was stocked with umbrellas. The only thing I didn't love about the layout was having to take two elevators to get to our room. The first elevator only gets you to the restaurant, front desk and concierge. The second elevator takes you to the rooms and facilities within the hotel. The latter portion of our trip fell during a large UN conference and we dealt with extra security to get into the building. It was a hassle but it didn't cost us too much time.
DINING
We checked out their restaurant, the Living room, during our stay. Aside from the Living Room, the Park Hyatt also offers room service. We enjoyed breakfast at the Living Room, which features a buffet or a la carte options. We opted for the buffet, which was $65/person. There was a decent spread but I don't feel like it was worth the price. If I had Globalist status with Hyatt (which includes breakfast) then I would be perfectly happy. Otherwise I'm more inclined to dine at other great restaurants in the area.
My favorite restaurants nearby are:
- Breakfast: Sarabeth's
- Lunch: Bareburger
- Dinner: La Grande Boucherie, LAVO, Sugarfish, Tavern On the Green
- Dessert: Magnolia Bakery, Venchi
VERDICT
Based on the room alone, this hotel is well worth a stay. This is easily the most comfortable I've felt in a hotel room. From the firm mattress, electric blackout curtains, and waterfall shower to the excellent cleaning and turndown service, I have no hesitation with booking the Park Hyatt New York again. The amenities (fitness center, pool, and spa) were on par with what I would expect from a five star hotel in New York City. The price tag is steep but it was well worth booking with points, in my opinion. I hope to make the Park Hyatt New York a regular choice in my rotation when visiting Manhattan.
