2023 Top Books
2023 was a good reading year for me. Really good reading year. I logged 34 books -- the most I've ever read in a year. I far surpassed my goal of 23. I realize reading goals are arbitrary and however much you read is amazing but it was nice to see so many books checked off on GoodReads. I thought it would be fun to share of my 2023 top books. Hopefully this inspires you to dive into some new books this year!
Expiration Dates (Rebecca Serle)
I feel a little bad including this book because it isn't out quite yet. I'm grateful I got an advanced copy but you can check it out on March 5th, 2024! I've been a big fan of Rebecca Serle since In Five Years, which made me sob in the best way. This book was sweet, shows how painful dating can be and had some heartbreaking moments. I'm thrilled to recommend this book to you!
The Five-Star Weekend (Elin Hilderbrand)
Ah, I'm so sad that this is one Elin's last books! Everything she writes makes for a lighthearted beach read. The Five-Star Weekend is no exception. Food blogger, Hollis Shaw, loses her husband unexpectedly in a car accident. She decides to plan the ultimate weekend with friends from each stage of her life. Drama unfolds and secrets are revealed in this story of friendship, love and self-discovery.
Forever, Interrupted (Taylor Jenkins Reid)
Unpopular opinion -- TJR's backlog is better than her more recent books. Elsie Porter mets and marries the love of her life within a few months. Only nine days later, he is hit by a truck and killed on impact. She must meet her new mother in law, Susan, for the first time in the hospital. The kicker? Susan doesn't even know she exists. This is a beautiful story of relationships and healing.
The Guest (Emma Cline)
This one kept me on my toes. As summer is coming to a close, Alex tries to convince people she's someone she isn't to prolong her Long Island stay.
It Ends with Us (Colleen Hoover)
Trigger warning - domestic violence. I finally picked this up after allllll the hype online. While this book was published in 2016, it came to fame a couple years ago through BookTok. This is a tragic and beautiful story of relationships, ethical dilemmas and first loves.
The Mystery Guest (Nita Prose)
Molly the maid is back in this sequel all about another murder at the Regency Grand Hotel. Who is everyone to suspect when a world-renowned mystery author drops dead right before sharing a huge announcement? It doesn't help matters that Molly has a history with him as well.
The Paris Apartment (Lucy Foley)
Jess needs a fresh start and staying with her half brother, Ben, in Paris seems like her best bet. The issue? Ben is missing. The connections between building residents sheds new light on his disappearance.
Really Good, Actually (Monica Heisey)
One woman's search for joy and purpose while managing her messy life feels painfully relatable. Monica is dealing with a divorce, a stagnant career and she's broke. This story finds humor while covering complex and painful topics.
