2024 already feels like an excellent year for readers. There have been many fantastic book releases already this year. The other day, I realized that there are a ton of new books I'm looking forward to this summer. I thought it would be fun to share the summer reads I'm most excited for. These are primarily lighter, beach reads (with some murder mystery thrown in). I'm grateful to have received advanced copies of some of these and I've denoted those with an *. Without further ado, let's dive into my most anticipated summer reads.
Funny Story (Emily Henry)
April 23, 2024
Technically this book has more of a spring release, however, I don’t believe we can discuss beach reads without including EmHen. Every bit of her backlist makes for a great summer afternoon read and Funny Story sounds like no exception.
Such A Bad Influence (Olivia Muenter)
June 4, 2024
I've been excited for this book since Olivia Muenter announced her debut novel. I'm a huge fan of the Bad on Paper podcast -- I've been listening since 2019 (before Olivia was even on it)! This story surrounds the disappearance of an eighteen year old influencer. It sounds right up my alley.
*Summer Romance (Annabel Monaghan)
June 4, 2024
This will be the beach read of the summer. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of reinvention and finding joy again. Ali Morris is a professional organizer who has been through the ringer: her mom passed away and her husband asked for a divorce. Through a new connection, she might just be able to rebuild and reclaim her life.
*Margo’s Got Money Troubles (Rufi Thorpe)
June 11, 2024
Where do I begin? What an unexpected and utter delight. I haven't come across a story like this before. Margo, a college student, has an affair with her English professor. When she finds herself pregnant and her estranged, former wrestler father needs to move in with her, she turns to Only Fans for some quick cash. The novel has already been purchased by A24 and Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning have signed on. Needless to say, I'm excited!
*Swan Song (Elin Hilderbrand)
June 11, 2024
Elin Hilderband's final Nantucket novel 🙁 I'm about a third of the way through and already enjoying the familiar characters and mystery of the summer. This final chapter follows Chief of Police, Ed Kapenash, as an incident occurs, just days before he is set to retire.
*The Midnight Feast (Lucy Foley)
June 18, 2024
There isn't a Lucy Foley book that I don't immediately want to pick up. As per usual, there's an elegant occasion that results in a discovered body. Who could have committed this murder?
